Job description

This is a new position, and you will have some autonomy in shaping it to meet the company’s needs.

You will take the lead in developing the company’s marketing and sales strategy, crafting a plan that moves us forward while adhering to our core values. You’ll then be hands-on in implementing this, discovering new leads, nurturing these, and converting them into sales. As part of the sales process, you’ll need to produce detailed project proposals for the client, which will feed into technical specifications for the production team. You will act as the client’s point of contact throughout the sales process and into the build phase.

In addition, you will manage our existing clients, acting as their point of contact and ensuring we’re supporting their needs. Where clients might genuinely benefit from additional services, you should be alert to upselling opportunities.

Specific responsibilities

  • Helping to develop a coherent sales and marketing strategy
  • Generating and following up on leads
  • Liaising with team to prepare quotes
  • Preparing detailed project proposals for clients, which will feed into the technical specifications for the production team
  • Closing sales
  • Recording sales and lead data
  • Developing new, lasting client relationships and nurturing existing ones
  • Recognising appropriate upselling opportunities and guiding clients in continual development

What we’re looking for

Listening and communication skills.

Above all, we need an excellent listener and communicator to build rapport with our clients. You’ll need these attributes to gain a deep understanding of prospective clients’ needs and goals, and to explain how we can meet these. We’re after someone genuine, that others can relate to. That could be a CEO who needs her website to support an ambitious business expansion, or a marketing director for a software start-up looking to establish credibility with investors. You should also have an adaptable communication style, talking techie or non-techie as the situation demands, and possess strong writing skills.

Interpersonal skills

We also need someone who will get to know our existing clients. That will mean immersing yourself in their organisations’ goals, celebrating their successes, and empathising with their challenges. But beyond that, it means demonstrating that we see clients as human beings and not just spreadsheet entries. And at a practical level, to remember all this, your note taking will have to be first-rate.

Previous experience

Previous successful experience in a sales role is essential, preferably in a B2B environment. Experience in a web or software development environment is also necessary, because you’ll be helping clients visualise the technical solutions we can provide, then discussing these with designers and developers.

Other attributes

We’re looking for someone who is goal orientated, self-motivated and can achieve great results, while treating clients with honesty and integrity. Someone who thrives working in a small team, rather than an impersonal high-pressure environment. And someone who won’t be fazed when team discussions take a quick detour into ancient video games (or other geeky destinations).

Practicalities

This is a full-time role that will involve you working virtually and from our office (in Royal Wootton Bassett) – initially you will be office based for 2/3 days a week in, however we will consider greater flexibility upon successful completion of a probationary period. You’ll need to travel to meet with clients, so having your own vehicle is essential (travel expenses will be reimbursed).

Benefits

This key position offers you the exciting opportunity to shape the company’s future, as well as your own role. Working closely with the company director means that your ideas can be implemented quickly, without the frustrating delays often seen in larger organisations.

Other details:

  • Paid out of pocket expenses
  • Enhanced sick pay
  • Collaborative and innovative team culture
  • Supportive, friendly team
  • Career growth as we expand our operations
  • The hours are 35 hours per week. The hours are 9am-5pm (with 1 hour unpaid lunch).
